Brushed, Mirror or Solid Colour? A Straight Answer on ACP Finishes

Brushed, mirror and solid colour ACP finishes compared

Two signs can be built exactly the same way and feel completely different, because finish does most of the talking. After years of supplying sign makers, here is our honest take on the three families.

Solid colours do the heavy lifting

Consistent, printable, easy to match to brand guidelines. Gloss gives you punch on a retail fascia. Matt controls glare on wayfinding and interior work, which is why architects keep specifying it. One habit worth keeping: order everything for one job from a single production batch. Solid colours show batch variation more than any other finish, and a two-tone shopfront is not the look anyone signed off on.

Brushed reads as metal, because it is

Brushed gold, silver and steel finishes give you a real metal face at panel prices, which is why they end up on reception signage, letter faces and premium fascia accents. The thing nobody tells you the first time: brushed grain has a direction. Cut your pieces so the grain runs the same way on every visible part, or the sign will catch light differently panel to panel and it will bother you forever.

Mirror is jewellery. Treat it that way.

Mirror ACP gives you a jewellery-shop look at a fraction of polished steel cost. It also shows every fingerprint, every scratch, every ripple underneath. Keep the film on until the last possible moment, handle it with gloves, and use it where it shines: letter faces, trims, accents. Large flat mirror fields are asking for trouble.

Mixing finishes, the short version

The best premium fascias usually pair one quiet field, say a matt solid, with one metallic accent in brushed or mirror. Three or more finishes in a single sign start competing with each other. You can browse the full colours and finishes library to shortlist combinations, and the signage range shows what we keep in stock.
