Signage ACP FAQ: 10 Questions We Answer Every Week

Signage ACP frequently asked questions

Some questions arrive in our inbox so often that we decided to answer them all in one place. These are the ten we hear most from sign makers, printers and fit-out contractors, answered the same way we answer them on the phone.

1. What thickness should I use for a shop sign?

For a typical street-facing fascia, 4mm. For smaller panels, interior signs and printed boards, 3mm. The deciding factor is span and wind, not looks. Both read identically once installed.

2. Can I print directly onto ACP?

Yes, UV flatbed printers print straight onto the coated face and the ink bonds well. For print-heavy work, use a sheet specified for it, like our UV printable ACP, where the face coating is chosen for ink adhesion.

3. Will the colour fade in the sun?

A signage-grade coating rated for Gulf exposure holds its colour for years. Fading problems almost always trace back to non-rated sheets bought on price. Ask for the coating spec in writing.

4. How do I cut it?

CNC router with a sharp single-flute bit is ideal. Panel saws with fine-tooth blades work for straight cuts. Hand tools can score and snap thin sheets in a pinch, but edges will not match machine quality.

5. Can I fold it without special machinery?

Yes. Rout a V-groove in the back and fold by hand. This is the standard way sign trays are made. No press brake needed.

6. Is ACP suitable for lightbox signs?

For the tray body, absolutely. The face needs acrylic or another translucent material where light passes through. Most lightboxes we supply into are an ACP tray with an acrylic face or push-through letters. Details on our lightbox page.

7. What is the difference between cheap ACP and signage-grade ACP?

Skin thickness, coating quality and bonding consistency. Cheap sheets dent in handling, fade early and can delaminate at routed edges. The failures show up after installation, which is the expensive time to find out.

8. Is it a real alternative to Dibond or Alupanel?

Yes. Those are brand names for aluminium composite panels. Like-for-like signage ACP does the same job. We wrote up the comparisons here: Dibond alternative and Alupanel alternative.

9. What sizes do sheets come in?

Standard sheet sizes cover most router beds, and as a UAE manufacturer we can discuss custom sizes for volume orders. Matching sheet size to your bed and your typical sign sizes is the easiest waste reduction there is.

10. How do I get samples or prices?

Ask. Send your requirement through the contact page and we respond with real answers: spec sheets, samples from current stock and pricing for your quantities. Browse the full range first on our products page.

Have a question that is not here? Send it in. The next version of this list will probably include it.
